The mako is the fastest of all sharks. This shark shoots through water, eaching moving speeds of 31 mph (50 kph) with bursts from 46 mph up to 100kph (60mph) to catch its food. Sometimes a mako will even jump right out of the water. The shortfin mako shark ( Isurus oxyrinchus) is found offshore in tropical and warm temperate waters of all oceans, but has been known to travel to cooler waters at times. It is very strong and the fastest known species of shark. "Mako" comes from the Māori language . They can live up to 20-28 years.The shortfin mako can reach a size of 4 m (13 ft) in length.
